Not a bad “text to speech” copy from the Wikipedia entry on Kwanzaa. This you tube author takes most of the entry with the exception of the “criticisms” section in Wikipedia.

Karenga gives some reasons why he created Kwanzaa in this youtube video. He doesn’t state the reasons that he gave in his earliest writings where he claims that Kwanzaa was created to be an alternative to the Christmas holiday, but he lists some fairly generic reasons why he did create it.
Also, if you ever wanted to know how to pronounce the Nguzo Saba and all of its seven principles in Swahili, this is the video that will show you how!

After a several months of laying low, it’s now back to work as the Kwanzaa season approaches! I’ve reactivated my blog and guestbook (from my website) so that folks can voice their opinions, praises or criticisms about my writings reagarding the African-American (not African) holiday of Kwanzaa.
It’s been some work fixing up my website and making it somewhat presentable for the upcoming season of Kwanzaa. After interviews with Ebony magazine and the Baltimore Sun’s Unisun, both about Kwanzaa, I now await the “letters to the editors.” And if the comments in my guestbook are any indication of the anger people have when you write against Kwanzaa, then I must start praying and bracing myself for the reactions to come!
For many people, Kwanzaa is more than just a “celebration.” For them it’s a way of life! Although claiming that Kwanzaa is not a religion, many urge others to practice the principles (the Nguzo Saba) daily to improve their lives. What other celebrations that we have that people are urged to practice daily? Fourth of July? Thanksgiving? Easter? Christmas? Veteran’s day? New Year’s day? Any of those days that come close to being “practiced daily” usually come under the description of religion!
I welcome the discussions about Kwanzaa because it always ends up pointing to the only way of life that one must choose – and that’s a life in Jesus Christ! My goal with Kwanzaa writings/discussions is to show the error of placing your faith in human principles and practices without Christ as the foundation. For a better life, one must choose God’s Son for salvation and His Word, the Bible for principles that offers instructions for life.
