Update 11/17
The hate machine is officially in full force after the disclosure by “scummy” ex-boyfriends that Carrie had made more than the one video that she claimed she made earlier. Granted, this young 22 year old has made some serious mistakes in the past and yes, maybe hasn’t handled the media storm about it in the best way, but she doesn’t deserve the hate that is being spewed at her right now.
I borrowed the word “scummy” from Maggie Gallagher, the President of the NOM, National Organization of Marriage, who said about Carrie Prejean:
“I cannot believe that reputable media (like the Today show) are featuring said boyfriends as they dump intimate details about Carrie,” said Gallagher. “Admittedly, I am getting kind of old. But in my old-fashioned view, boyfriends who release such information on ex-girlfriends are scummy. I don’t understand the newsworthiness of these allegations.”
She also said in the article:
“7 million Californians voted for Prop 8. I have no doubt that quite a few of them are people who committed sexual sins of various kinds. Why is this one 22-year-old girl carrying the whole weight of that on her young shoulders?” (see full article by Kathleen Gilbert on LifeSiteNews here)
Why doesn’t she deserve this hate? Because as Gallagher pointed out, of the millions of people who stand against same-sex marriage, how many of us are “pure” in the eyes of these antagonists? And how many of us are receiving this same treatment? We all know that Carrie is receiving this treatment because of her unplanned stand she initially took against same sex marriage, and the fact that she DARED to even come out and continue to speak out against it!
Now she is being punished by the homosexuals and their supporters. Every media type you can imagine, TV, Radio, Internet, Print and on and on you will find hatred spewed at Carrie for what? For not being completely upfront about the videos? For even participating in un-christlike behavior in the videos? All of a sudden who has become the judge and the jury? The same crowd who will in a hot second cry their favorite bible verse: “Judge that ye be not judged” when confronted of their own transgressions.
The hate is despicable and all I can say to Carrie is what I’ve tweeted to her twittter account: “bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you.” Luke 6:28
Update 11/12
Okay, after initially being in FULL support of Carrie Prejean, I am now pulling back on some of that support – just a little. What caused the change of heart? A few things with one being her interview with a Christian writer where she doesn’t see anything wrong with beauty pageants. That brings a question to her understanding of the pitfalls of these pageants and how their poor messages could affect young girls who emulate her. There are a few more things other than that but I’ll discuss those later in this post.
Carrie’s past is not a problem because there’s no evidence that she’s presently participating in nude picture shoots, sex video tapes and going under the knife for cosmetic reasons at every chance she gets. All of the above she’s done – IN THE PAST! What is she doing now? Merely speaking out about her new book. But here is a snippet from the interview about her new book “Still Standing”, she had with the Christianity Today writer, Sarah Pulliam Bailey which lead me to question her understanding about how beauty pageants compromise our Christian beliefs:
SPB: “Some Christians have spoken out against women participating in beauty pageants. How would you respond to them?”
CP: “I think you can be a Christian and compete in a pageant. I think you can be a Christian and be a model. It depends on how you act as that role, and if you remember who you are and you remember what you stand for and stay true to who you are, you can be in any job. Just don’t compromise what you believe in.”
Compromise is the key word here. Was anything compromised at all? After scouring the blogs after Carrie’s initial firestorm involving the gay Miss USA judge Perez Hilton, I found that many of the complaints from fellow Christians were of Carrie participating in an organization where beauty is weighed mostly upon the outer beauty and not inner, and wearing skimpy clothing. The questions that should have been asked before her participating in the pageant, “what message am I sending the young girls? Am I an example of modesty? Is this the look that young women and girls should imitate? Should beauty be measured by man’s standard or God’s standard?”
I’ll start more with the obvious and that’s the modesty issue. We know that modesty is huge for the woman because of what the scriptures say about it:
“in like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing,” 1 Timothy 2:9
Modest clothing, with propriety and moderation. Of course in biblical days braids were considered “showy” along with expensive jewelry and/or clothing with the whole point of this being not to dress where it brings attention to one’s self! Not quite the purpose of pageants which seek to bring attention ON the women’s body. Not at all what one should encourage a young lady to participate in. Christian women of today have a problem with modesty even in CHURCH let alone beauty pageants! I wrote about this problem in detail on my post titled: Christian Women: Bring back modesty!
Another troublesome statement is the one she made about breast implants to the Christianity Today writer during the interview:
SPB: You wrote that you don’t regret getting breast implants. Have you ever wondered whether it might be incompatible with your Christian faith?
CP: “No, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with getting breast implants as a Christian. I think it’s a personal decision. I don’t see anywhere in the Bible where it says you shouldn’t get breast implants.”
Whenever the bible is silent on an issue, then one must weigh several other things. Most importantly motive. I don’t see a problem with women getting breast implants if its for the purpose of pleasing their husbands. But to get implants to increase your chances of winning a beauty contest is not really a great motive. It’s been said that Carrie was pressured into getting these implants. But if one is approached that they have to go under the knife to increase their chances of being more “beautiful” that should be the first clue the whole “beauty” thing was a sham!
And lastly – Carrie’s video tape which she says was made when she was 17. Now ex-boyfriend says she was 20 and the tape made in 2007. Her word against his but why would he lie with the pics as his evidence? That’s bothersome and I truly don’t know who to believe at the time of this writing. When more info comes out on that, it will be another update.
Why are all of these things important? Because Carrie’s character is called into question NOW! Is she lying or is she not? Will she be influencing our young women and girls on artificial beauty? On lack of modesty? Do we want our girls to look at her as a role model if she is exhibiting poor character today? Her past actions don’t matter because it’s what’s she’s doing today that is most important.
Carrie is being attacked for her original stance on same-sex marriage, but she is also being attacked for appearing hypocritical. She wouldn’t be receiving the venomous attacks that she’s getting right now if she wasn’t giving them anything to talk about:
“15 For this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men— 16 as free, yet not using liberty as a cloak for vice, but as bondservants of God.” 1 Peter 2:15-16
But guess what? What Christian on earth is living a perfect life? Carrie is not hated because of her imperfections, but she IS hated for taking a stand against same-sex marriage and telling the world that she is a follower of Christ.
So what should Carrie’s fellow Christians’ stance be on her right now? It is this: Carrie Prejean is a child of God and a strong one at that! God isn’t finished with her, you or me and I still believe that He has great plans for her!
My article may appear to be an attack on Carrie, but it isn’t. I support her and pray for her to continue growing spiritually as I pray for myself to do the same. I AM guilty for jumping on the Carrie Prejean Christian Star bandwagon, but I’ve jumped off that and back into reality. Carrie is young, smart and beautiful inside and out (I know Whoopi Goldberg doesn’t thing so – she called her “bitchy” on The View today).
But she’s STILL STANDING through all of this madness and if she perseveres, nothing but good will come out later!

Maine is 31st state to vote against same-sex marriage

Maine voters repealed the same-sex marriage law that was set in place by state lawmakers, again showing the country that when put to a popular vote, same-sex marriage does not survive. Not one state where people can legally marry their same-sex partner was it ever determined by the people, but rather by politicians with an agenda – or politicians fooled into believing that the will of the people was being served.
Sadly, those who support same-sex marriage just don’t get it that people are all for tolerance but don’t support the re-engineering of marriage. Social scientists who dare to speak the truth rather than support an agenda, will attest to the facts that families fare better with a mother and a father.
Thirty-one states believe that and the question remains, will that trend continue?
