Kwanzaa. It is a subject I have been researching for many, many years. It
has been a passion of mine ever since one of my sisters changed her birth
name to a Swahili name and then denounced her belief in Jesus Christ. This
drastic change in behavior happened shortly after she joined a Black
Nationalist group called the US Organization, led by the creator of Kwanzaa
- Maulana Karenga. I had to know what this organization was teaching that
encouraged my sister to reject our Savior (fortunately, she has long since
rejoined the family of Christ). What I stumbled upon as a young 20-
something year old married mom of two toddlers truly surprised me!

As I researched Karenga and Kwanzaa, I found myself reliving many of the
events that were talked about in this book. Events like attending the “Soul
Sessions” that still go on today at the headquarters of the US Organization.
Curious of the teachings that were being taught to my sister, I would listen
and then eventually join in the discussions. Dr. Karenga, true to how the
reference books describe him, surely did carry these sessions in a religiouslike
style. He expounded on his Afrocentric philosophy just as a preacher
would the Bible and his congregation would shout back “teach” whenever
something pleasing was said instead of the word “preach” that a preacher
would sometimes hear. I relived that experience several times as I continued
going to the center to learn more and more of what Karenga was teaching.

I had compiled a series of notes about what I discovered, including
quotations directly from those meetings at “the Center.” I also gathered
audio tapes and borrowed books from my US member sister’s home library
(she didn’t know until many years later). I then placed that acquired
information conveniently on the web available for anyone to see for years.
These notes consisted of shocking statements made by the man responsible
for creating one of the fastest growing new celebrations of our time –
Kwanzaa!

Those notes and website I have now converted into an easy to follow book,
with more information than was found on the original website.
My purposes in writing this book are 1) that the myths of Kwanzaa can be
explored and exposed not only as a pseudo-religious and cultural celebration
but an event hostile to Christian beliefs and practices and 2) that the true
answer to bringing unity, happiness, and spiritual transformation to any
family and community is through a faith in God through Jesus Christ.

Although written from a Christian’s perspective complete with scriptural and
non-scriptural references, this book can be used by any person of any
ethnicity, religion, or political background. This book contains intensely
researched sources to provide information about Kwanzaa, its history,
purpose and irrelevance in the 21st century.

There is more information about Kwanzaa and one can use the sources I
listed throughout the book to retrieve more information. Be sure to check
those out as well.

Also, be sure to follow the website TheTruthAboutKwanzaa.com where you
will find more information and a link to an interactive blog for discussion.

Happy reading!
